A new biography of Madonna has revealed the usual trivia, such as she begged Tupac Shakur for
a child (he didn't have any spare apparently) and her various conquests
with unsuitable men (so nothing has really changed), but the best
revelations concern her wedding to Sean Penn in 1985.





'Madonna: Like An Icon' (clever title) by Lucy O'Brien reveals the
chaos caused by various TV helicopters hovering over the marquee and
trying to get footage of the ceremony, mainly to see if Sean was crazy
enough to go through with it and whether his brother Chris would
mistake her wedding dress train for a big white line of something and
attempt to sniff it up.



One guest less than impressed with the helicopters buzzing overhead was Martin Sheen, as fellow guest Bill Meyer recalled:



"Martin was freaked out by the media helicopters. He was flinching and
jerking involuntarily. He said it reminded him of filming 'Apocalypse
Now' during the making of which he suffered a heart attack."



Just what you need at the wedding reception! Robert Duvall striding
around with his top off and noting how pleasant confetti smells in the
afternoon, while Martin Sheen strips to his knickers and rolls around
the floor, smearing himself with the soup.



Let's just be grateful Marlon Brando wasn't invited. Sheen would have
been chasing him around the bridesmaids with the wedding cake knife.

"I grew up in the Seventies and was never without my Star Wars baseball cap, which was an original from the film," says founder and designer Jay Jay Burridge. Can you imagine the child of Madonna and Tupac Shakur? According to Lucy O'Brien's new book, "Madonna: Like an Icon," out Tuesday, it almost happened.

O'Brien says Madonna, in her mid-30s, "desperately wanted children and had various relationships with unlikely men." The singer's friend Alison Clarkson recalls when she was briefly dating Tupac Shakur, one year before his death.

"She was going out with him ... but homegirls were saying to him, 'I can't believe you're going out with a white girl,'" - so she got dumped!

Earlier, when Madonna had taken Sean Penn to the altar, pal Bill Meyers recalls that fellow wedding guest Martin Sheen was freaked out by all the media in helicopters.

"He was flinching and jerking involuntarily ... he said it reminded him of filming 'Apocalypse Now' [during the making of which he suffered a heart attack]," Meyers recalls. "Madonna was giving them the finger and Sean was running in the house for his shotgun."

That wedding took place in Malibu on her 27th birthday, in 1985, in front of stars including Andy Warhol and Carrie Fisher. O'Brien says Warhol was shocked that one of her best New York friends, Johnny Dynell, was not invited.

Andy said to Dynell, "You should just ride her coattails - she's going to be so famous."

Madonna is directing a new documentary that is not about her music.

In the Ask Ro section of her website, Rosie O'Donnell reveals:

That title is from Desmond Tutu's (Archbishop from Cape Town, South Africa) words.

The documentary is very beautiful and touching, a source told Drowned Madonna.

It focuses on the poor, full of suffering lives of Malawi children.

Malawi is the African country where her Madgesty adopted little David recently.

I Am Because We Are shows how AIDS has effected the lives of Malawi's children, since many many of them lost their parents due to the disease and have to live on the streets.

The documentary also highlights the work that Madonna's organization, Raising Malawi, has been doing in the country.

This isn't a very commercial venture, but it's definitely a pet project for the Queen of Pop, who is trying to enlighten the world.

Madonna and Guy Ritchie have reportedly passed the test and will get a permanent custody of the boy Davie Banda earlier than everyone expected.
The singer initially had some problems due to the way she handled the
adoption process, but now everything seems to go very well. An official
from the Malawian government, visited the Celebrity couple at their
London home last month to see if they would be suitable parents for
Davie. After passing the critic eye, according to the Sun, Madonna will
fly out to Malawi next month (and not in April) for the final review in
front of the country’s high court
.


Madonna and Guy - who are currently in Los Angeles with David and
her two older children, Lourdes and Rocco - adopted David a year ago
and received a temporary custody order for 18 months to verify the
suitability of family before any formal proceedings will be made.

Madonna: 'The possibilities are endless'

-- Madonna and concert promoter Live Nation Inc. announced a deal
Tuesday that will give Live Nation a stake in her albums, tours,
merchandising, films and other music-related projects.

Madonna has been with Warner Bros. Records for her entire career, but "the paradigm ... has shifted," she said.











Financial terms were not disclosed in the joint statement released by
Madonna and Live Nation. A person familiar with the agreement
previously told the Associated Press it was worth about $120 million
over 10 years.

The official announcement came after weeks of
speculation that the Material Girl would abandon Warner Music Group
Corp., which refused to match the Live Nation deal.

Madonna said
in the statement that she was drawn to the all-encompassing deal with
Live Nation because of the changes the music business has undergone in
recent years.

"The paradigm in the music business has shifted
and as an artist and a business woman, I have to move with that shift,"
Madonna said. "For the first time in my career, the way that my music
can reach my fans is unlimited
. I've never wanted to think in a limited
way and with this new partnership, the possibilities are endless
."





































































The singer still owes Warner Bros. Records another studio album and a greatest hits album.


Under terms of the proposed deal, Madonna, 49, would receive a signing
bonus of about $18 million and a roughly $17 million advance for each
of three albums, the person said. A portion of the compensation would
involve stock, the person told the AP.

Madonna could also
benefit significantly from the touring component of the deal, which
gives Live Nation the exclusive right to promote her tours, the person
said. The person asked not to be named because of the confidential
nature of the negotiations.

Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino said
in the statement that Madonna will be the founding artist in its new
Artist Nation division,
created to partner with artists to manage their
diverse rights and provide global distribution and marketing.

"I
am thrilled that Madonna, who is also now a shareholder in our company,
has joined with us to create a new business model for our industry
,"
Rapino said. "Bringing all the varied elements of Madonna's stunning
music career into the Artist Nation and Live Nation family, moves her
future and the future of our company into a unique and extraordinary
place
."

The deal encompasses all of Madonna's future music and
music-related businesses, including the Madonna brand, new studio
albums, touring, merchandising, fan club and Web site, DVDs,
music-related television and film projects, and associated sponsorship

October 19, 2007 -- Fresh from stealing Madonna from Warner Music
Group, concert promoter Live Nation is in advanced talks to acquire the
Material Girl's merchandising company, Signatures Network, The Post has
learned.

A deal for Signatures Network, which holds the rights
to license and market more than 125 artists including U2, Kanye West
and Bruce Springsteen, is expected to be announced in the next two
weeks, according to four sources close to the situation.

Live
Nation is paying around $50 million for Signatures Network, these
sources said, with one of them adding that the merchandising company
generates about $120 million in annual revenue but operates with very
small profit margins.

A spokesman for Live Nation declined to comment. Signatures Network CEO Dell Furano did not return a call for comment.


Live Nation has been quietly gobbling up ancillary businesses related
to the concert industry as a way to extend its reach and diversify its
revenue stream.

Earlier this year the company acquired the
remaining stake in high-end concert T-shirt merchandiser Trunk it
didn't already own.

Last month it acquired the 50 percent
portion of UltraStar it did not own. UltraStar runs the official artist
Web sites for Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police and others.

Live Nation also recently bought fan club ticketing service Musictoday and merchandising company Ant Hill Trading.


Signatures Network is bigger than all of those assets combined,
however, with sources saying that the $50 million Live Nation is
shelling out for the company is twice what it paid for the others.


Though it has focused solely on tour merchandising in the past, sources
said Signatures Network was now looking to strike all-encompassing
rights deals that would also include things like fragrances and
accessories in addition to tour-related merchandise.

Madonna inspires Indian designer at Fashion Week









Pop icon Madonna inspired Indian designer's collection showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW).


Drawing inspiration from the
49-year-old style diva, designer Nandita Thirani came up with a very
funky yet an elegant collection under her label 'Contradiction' that
embodied the spirit of reinvention in a person's life.





Working around three basic colours -
black, white and hot pink, she put up a collection of classy cocktail
dresses in sheer fabrics of georgettes and chiffons.



Short funky dresses in chessboard designs stood out for their simple cuts and feminine elegance.



"The theme of collection is Madonna
Affliction. It signifies reinventing yourself, because Madonna is a pop
icon who keeps on reinventing herself. It's a very young collection and
it's very elegant," said Thirani.



Meanwhile, debutante designer Kunal
Rawal's casual and chic men's wear for the coming Spring-Summer 2008
titled 'Free Hugs', carried hints of the 80's era to suit the
modern-day male.



Relaxed and comfortable clothing in a
mix of flashy neons, racy acidic colours with shades of blue, white and
grey, brought in a dash of freshness that embodies the spirit of
spring-summer.



Bermudas, shirts, pullovers, hooded jackets, jumpers and semi-formal wear completed the couture.



Minimalist style detailing and bright slogans created a synergy between psychedelic and simplicity.



"The idea is to focus on comfort and
relaxed clothing. I don't think anyone is taking care of designer
casual wear in India. I think it's a very big market especially for a
country like India that is being hit by globalisation so hard and so
fast," said Rawal.



The fashion week has seen designers experimenting with strong colours rather than seasonal whites and muted pastels.



LFW is the first event independently organised by fashion accessories major, Lakme.
