Madonna and family go to the movies

Madonna and Guy Ritchie put on a show of unity in New York yesterday as they continue to fight rumours their marriage is on the rocks.

Last week, the couple denied they were planning to divorce after Madonna was dragged into the high-profile split of baseball star Alex Rodriguez and his wife Cynthia.

After Ritchie flew to Madonna's side in New York last week, the couple have been making sure they are photographed together in a bid to dispel reports their relationship is deteriorating.

Togetherness: Madonna and Guy Ritchie stroll hand-in-hand through Manhattan with their seven-year-old son Rocco

On Sunday, Madonna and Ritchie brought their seven-year-old son Rocco, the singer's daughter Lourdes, 12, and a young friend to the cinema for a family day out - leaving adopted son David at home with a nanny.

While Lourdes was content to chat away with her pal, Madonna strolled down the street holding hands with two of the males in her life - Ritchie and Rocco.

The family outing comes as the Material Girl's estranged brother Christopher Ciccone published extracts of his forthcoming book Life With My Sister Madonna in the Mail on Sunday ahead of the publication this week.

In the book, Ciccone claims the couple only ever talk about the Kabbalah, the mystical offshoot of Judaism which Madonna has practised since 1997.

Last week, lawyers for New York Yankees player Rodriguez's wife Cynthia cited the sportsman's 'friendship' with Madonna as humiliating.

Although Cynthia does not claim Rodriguez's relationship with Madonna was romantic in divorce papers, she does cite his recent behaviour as 'marital disconduct'.

Her lawyer Earle Lilly said: 'She (Cynthia) has tolerated a lot of misconduct, but this one was the straw ... the final straw. I mean, having her (Madonna) sit in his box at baseball games, and the Kabbalah meetings that have taken place ... it's like an open forum. It's just short of embarrassing if nothing else.'
