CFDA - Cross-Dressing Designers Honored

The CFDA's 21 nominees showcased their work in an unconventional way – by modeling the pieces themselves, WWD reports. Not so unusual for Rodarte's Laura and Kate Mulleavy, who are up for womenswear designer of the year, to step into their own creations. But Jason Wu? Yep, he dressed up -- in a dress. (Yes, that's Jason Wu of Michelle Obama, one-shoulder Inauguration dress fame.)

The end result only confirms Wu's creativity, as he paired a chiffon gown with a sleek suit.

The 21 images, shot by photographer Craig McDean, will be showcased in the CFDA Journal, the annual collection of nominees' work -- which normally utilizes a model.

Marc Jacobs wears a pair of Louis Vuitton bunny ears (the ones Madonna wore to steal the spotlight at the Met's Costume Institute Gala last month), and Alexander Wang adds a masculine flair to his knitwear by shredding it before slipping into it.

WWD says CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg requested something "fabulous" that "captured fashion." Mission: Accomplished!
