But an invitation for Guy to meet new adopted daughter Mercy has caused a thaw between the pair.
Malawian Mercy James arrived in Britain last weekend and Guy spent much of Friday night bonding with his ex-wife and her daughter, according to the Daily Mail.
Friends say that the 40-year-old movie director has 'fallen head over heels' with Mercy and nicknamed her Koala as she clings to anyone holding her.
When Madonna first thought of adopting another child, it came as the final straw for Guy. With their marriage already in crisis, Guy was said to be against the adoption and the couple later divorced.
But as the dust settles, it seems Madonna is keen for Guy to remain part of the family and she has reportedly invited Ritchie to spend time with Mercy over the summer.
A source told the Mail: "Guy is at Ashcombe, his house in Wiltshire, with his sons David and Rocco, but Madonna has told him he is welcome at the house in London.
"Madonna's 12-year-old daughter Lourdes really misses Guy. She adores him and has been instrumental in encouraging her mother and Guy to get along.
"She is old enough to read the papers, and she hated the fact that they were having a go at each other in the Press. She told them to stop it. Since then Madonna has been making a real effort.
"She is desperate for this adoption to be seen as a success, because she has set her heart on adopting more children."
Madonna is obviously keen to extend her family. Check out who else is taking the adoption route..

LATER, September 7TH, 1992, MADONNA DONATED THIS CAR to the TULSA RONALD MC DONALD HOUSE when MULTI-MILLIONAIRE, STEPHEN HILBERT, the founder and former head of insurance conglomerate Conseco, CNO purchased it.

from 1985s VIRGIN TOUR
EVERYTHING about Madonna is larger than life, from her record sales to her glittery costumes, to her recent legal battle to adopt a child in Malawi, to the price she paid for a 57-foot-wide town house on the outer fringes of the Upper East Side.
Brokers scoffed at her foolishness when it was reported that she was in contract to buy a sprawling Georgian-style town house in the sticks, a k a far East 81st Street, for $40 million. The place was nowhere near the elite homes of Fifth Avenue, beyond the lower-status Lexington Avenue and many blocks from the hallowed soil of Central Park.
But last week, when she closed on the purchase, it turned out the hard-working Material Girl, sweating her way through another world tour at age 50, had not lost her street smarts. The rock star, born Madonna Louise Ciccone of Bay City, Mich., actually received a significant discount. She paid only $32.5 million, according to brokers briefed on the transaction.
The final purchase price works out to a 28 percent discount from the $45 million price tag of the original listing, by Louise Beit of Sotheby's International Real Estate. The property was listed last October, after the death of the longtime owner, Louise H. Saurel.
Wendy Maitland, a broker at Brown Harris Stevens who has represented Madonna in the past, declined to discuss the transaction.
The sale would still make it the highest town house sale in the anemic first half of 2009, but not out of line with recent sales of much smaller town houses in that neighborhood.
Last year at the peak of the market, a 19-foot-wide town house on far East 78th Street sold for $9.5 million, or about $2,750 a square foot. The price per square foot paid by Madonna in a weaker market was about the same, but one could argue she got a lot more in the deal.
With 57 feet of street frontage, her new mansion is one of the widest town houses in Manhattan, combining what appear to have once been three separate town houses. According to the listing, the house has 26 rooms, including a 38-foot-wide drawing room and 13 bedrooms. There are 9 fireplaces, 11-foot ceilings and, in the rear, a 3,000-square-foot garden. Who needs Central Park when your backyard is park size?
If the house isn't big enough, its size can be doubled under current zoning, and unlike those precious buildings on Fifth Avenue, it is situated beyond the purview of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. In any event, with a two-car garage on the premises, the new owner could whisk her children to the park by limousine in about as much time as it would take to go by elevator from a Fifth Avenue penthouse to the lobby.nytimes
Thats why Madonna went back into the studio to record a few new tracks; cause this is her final goodbye to the label that was with her from the start.
It will be called ICONOGRAPHY, and feature a photo booklet that includes rare early era pictures and on.
Infamous producer and DJ Paul Oakenfold, who's not only remixed artists from Radiohead to Justin Timberlake and The Rolling Stones, is also credited as being the main catalyst of the dance music revolution that took hold of the UK in the late 1980's and as the one who's brought DJ sets to stadiums, via his opening slots for major pop acts such as U2. As if to thank him for bringing dance music beyond the sweaty, grimy dance clubs and to the masses, none other than Madonna, who always has a knack for scouting out the world's best producers, recruited Oakenfold to produce new material for her forthcoming greatest hits album, to be released sometime in Sept 2009. "Cutting edge sounds combined with classic Madonna," says Oakenfold of the new songs.
Oakenfold is also set to embark on a 25-country world tour this summer, which includes opening for Madonna on all of her "Sticky & Sweet" UK and European dates.
In summer of 2008, Oakenfold began a weekly residency at the Palms Hotel & Casino called "Perfecto Vegas." Conceived by the Maloof brothers and their nightlife team in conjunction with Oakenfold himself, "Perfecto Vegas" has brought a fabulous, Ibizan-styled club element to one of the hippest places in Vegas.
To commemorate the ongoing success of the night, Thrive Records will release Perfecto Vegas on July 14th. This double CD set consists of 21 exclusive tracks, picked and mixed by Oakenfold. The set focuses on the less pop leaning, "classic Oakenfold" sound that fans have been craving since his Grammy-nominated 2004 release,Creamfields.
Along with an extensive tour with Madonna, Oakenfold will also co-headline such major summer festival dates as Wireless in the UK, Red Rocks and the Electric Daisy Carnival at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Oakenfold continues to work on his new original studio album, Pop Killer, which will be released in 2010. The project already features collaborations with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, and Ce-Lo. Perfecto Vegas is available nationwide in stores and online July 14th 2009.source

"I can't stop crying over the sad news," Madonna says. "I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever! My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless."
Lisa Marie Presley, who was briefly married to Jackson in the mid-1990s, says, "I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible. I am heartbroken for his children, who I know were everything to him, and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me."
"My heart is overcome with sadness for the devastating loss of my true friend Michael," adds Brooke Shields, who raised eyebrows when she briefly dated Jackson. "He was an extraordinary friend, artist and contributor to the world. I join his family and his fans in celebrating his incredible life and mourning his untimely passing."
Elizabeth Taylor, one of Jackson's closest and longstanding friends, was "too devastated" to issue a statement, her rep says, while Quincy Jones, who produced Jackson's biggest hits, says, "I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words."
Cher, calling in to Larry King Live on CNN, shared many memories of Jackson, including dancing together on the Queen Mary and seeing the musical Dreamgirls together. "I am having a million reactions," said Cher. "When I think of him, I think of this young boy, this teenager I first met … He was a great teenager, optimistic and adorable."
She also praised his talent. "He was a great singer. You can't write him off as just a pop [star]. He was a genius like Ray Charles … He had a gift… He was able to connect with people."
Whitney Houston, who has battled her own demons and is on the verge of a comeback, just as Jackson was, released a statement saying simply, "I am full of grief."

Actress Jane Fonda used Twitter to express her grief writing, "I am stunned. My friend, Michael Jackson is dead. He lived with me for a week on the Golden Pond set after 'Thriller.' "
In a statement Thursday afternoon Britney Spears said, "I was so excited to see his show in London. We were going to be on tour in Europe at the same time and I was going to fly in to see him. He has been an inspiration throughout my entire life and I'm devastated he's gone!"
Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, which honored Jackson with 13 Grammys, says, "Rarely has the world received a gift with the magnitude of artistry, talent, and vision as Michael Jackson. He was a true musical icon."
In a long, heartfelt statement Usher said he was "deeply saddened" by the loss and paid tribute to Jackson's legacy. "May God cover you Michael. We all lift your name up in prayer. I pray for the entire Jackson family particularly Michael's mother, children and all his fans that loved him so much. I would not be the artist, performer, and philanthropist I am today without the influence of Michael. I have great admiration and respect for him and I'm so thankful I had the opportunity to meet and perform with such a great entertainer, who in so many ways, transcended the culture. He broke barriers, he changed radio formats! With music, he made it possible for people like Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama to impact the mainstream world. His legacy is unparalleled Michael Jackson will never be forgotten."

The Queen of Pop allegedly told architects she wanted the 20-million-pound pad to be a dead ringer for Ashcombe House.
"Madonna is obsessed with making it a match with Ashcombe," The Sun quoted a source as saying.
"She wants matching wallpaper, fabrics and furniture.
Madonna reportedly wants to turn her newly-acquired Upper East Side townhouse into a "replica" of her countryside estate in England. She's having her staffers "troll the Upper East Side boutiques for candelabras, side tables, and period chaises."

The '4 Minutes' singer - a devout follower of the mystical Jewish faith Kabbalah - wants to take the four-year-old tot to see the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, along with the star's adopted son David.
The trip will happen in September to coincide with Madonna's final date of her 'Sticky and Sweet' tour in Tel Aviv, Israel.
A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Madonna wants to give Mercy enough time to settle into her new home. By September she feels she will be ready to take the trip without the danger of upheaval.
Mercy flew from her home country of Malawi to London to start a new life with the 50-year-old singer on Saturday.
Madonna met the little girl from her private jet with her children - including 12-year-old daughter Lourdes and eight-year-old son Rocco - and ex-husband Guy.
The family is expected to stay in the UK for a few days before returning to Madonna's home in New York.
A Kabbalah insider confirmed that Madonna was at the London Kabbalah centre on Shabbat with the whole family....which now includes little Mercy. All seemed to be in great form, with Mercy enjoying herself and happily settled into her new family. While M concentrated on the Torah reading with Lourdes at her side, David and Mercy played together running around non-stop. M looked the best she has for some time - all cheekbones, stunning blue eyes and pouty lips!
Reports Sunday said that after meeting her new mom on Friday, adopted Madonna daughter Mercy James was given her first Kabbalah lesson.
After a 6,000 mile journey from an orphanage in Malawi, Mercy arrived in London with Madge where the pair greeted her new siblings Lourdes, Rocco and David at The Kabbalh Center, reports UK's Mirror.
Also there to welcome the 3-year-old was Madonna's ex-husband Guy Ritchie.
After an hourlong lesson, Ritchie decamped with the boys so Madonna could bond appropriately with little Mercy.
After an intense battle with the Malawi High Court, Madonna was finally granted a formal adoption, her second from the embattled country. Her first is youngest son David Banda.
The three-year-old girl began her new life after spending twelve hours traveling from South Africa to London's Heathrow Airport. Madonna flew into the British capital on Friday with her three other children - and there was a further surprise in store when her ex-husband Ritchie joined the clan for a full family reunion.
The divorced couple then attended a Kabbalah meeting with Mercy, their son Rocco, eight, adopted three year old David, and Madonna's 12-year-old daughter Lourdes. The family was photographed arriving at the London Kabbalah center on Saturday, where they remained for an hour.
Ritchie then took Rocco and David to his country home in Wiltshire, England for a boys' weekend, leaving Madonna and Lourdes to bond with Mercy.
Madonna won her bid to take home the youngster on June 12th after the Malawian high court approved the adoption.
MADONNA'S new daughter, Mercy James, 4, arrived in Britain yesterday to be reunited with the singer.
She was flown from Malawi to Heathrow in a carefully orchestrated operation.
Madonna, 50, had flown into Britain from New York with her three other children hours earlier. Their meeting was thought to be the first since she travelled to Malawi in April, when her adoption bid was rejected before then being approved this month.
Malawian police arranged for the airport terminal in Lilongwe to be shut so Mercy and her new nanny, Joanne, could leave privately on a six-seater Cessna Citation.
They went to Johannesburg, then flew first class to Heathrow, landing at 6.30am. Earlier, Mercy was said to be filled with excitement at leaving Kumbali Lodge in Malawi.
One staff member said: "She was running around, singing to herself and telling everyone how she would be flying for the first time."
She said goodbye in her native language, telling staff: "I'm going now, I'm going on a plane, I'm going up to the sky."
The orphan will join big sister Lourdes and brothers Rocco and David Banda, another adopted three-year-old Malawian, to live in New York.
The singer won custody of Mercy this month, three years after falling for the child on a visit to the African country.
Madonna's other children were introduced to Mercy in April and were reportedly distressed at leaving her behind when Malawi's High Court rejected the singer's application because she was not resident in the country.
This decision was overturned by the Supreme Court.
It has been reported that Madonna has just splashed out $25 million on a Georgian-style townhouse in New York's Upper East Side, a 26-room home said to have 13 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.
Rights groups claimed the Government gave Madonna special treatment and said foreign celebrities would now think they could adopt Malawian children at will.
Mercy's alleged father, James Kambewa, said Madonna, who is dating Brazilian model Jesus Luz, 22, should not be allowed to adopt Mercy.
But there is little he can do - the Supreme Court ruling cannot be challenged.

Malawi's four-year-old Chifundo 'Mercy' James has joined the family of US pop star Madonna after she has been taken out of Malawi.
Chifundo whose adoption by Madonna was granted by Malawi's Supreme Court of Appeal week when an earlier ruling barring the move was overturned was on Friday moved from Kumbali Lodge, where the 50-year-old singer stays during her trips to Malawi to board a private jet and join Madonna.
Kumbali Lodge staffers said a nanny and a nurse who arrived earlier in the week from US left with the new daughter of the US pop queen under tight security after US Embassy in Lilongwe issued her a Visa on Wednesday allowing her to travel to US.
"She has been taken away from the Lodge. She has learnt to speak basic English. Chifundo can answer a greeting in English and can tell you what she has eaten. She had English speaking lessons," said the Lodge's staffer.
"She is now looking cute and clean," added the Lodge staffer.
Officials at Kamuzu International Airport in the capital, Lilongwe said a private jet was cleared to pick Chifundo and passengers including a nanny and a nurse.
One said a nanny was heard speaking fluent Chichewa, a Malawian national language.
Chifundo now joins her Malawian-born brother David Banda, Lourdes and Rocco.
Madonna and David were spotted at London's Heathrow Airport on Friday June 19, 2009, from New York reportedly to be on her way to Malawi, to collect Chifundo.
Madonna has founded a charity, Raising Malawi, which helps feed, educate and provide medical care for some of Malawi's more than 1 million orphans, half of whom have lost a parent to AIDSsource
The airport worker said three-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James flew out late yesterday on a private jet, heading for London, with a stop in neighbouring South Africa.
The person familiar with the adoption said the little girl was due to arrive in London this morning.
Malawi's highest court granted the adoption on June 12.
A Louisiana movie investor has agreed to dismiss pop singer Madonna from a lawsuit that accuses a film production company she founded of failing to repay the investor's loans.
Madonna's dismissal from the suit is part of a settlement outlined in court papers filed Thursday. Financial terms of the settlement aren't disclosed in the filing.
Madonna's lawyers have said she wasn't involved in any of the contracts that Baton Rouge investor Jay Dykes Jr. allegedly signed with Maverick Films.
Dykes' suit claims Maverick Films failed to repay hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans or give him producer credits for movies he says he helped finance.
Madonna and her manager, Guy Oseary, founded Maverick Films in 2001, but she later divested her stake in the company.
