Madonna to meet with Israel Prime Minsiter

American pop icon Madonna sparked a media frenzy when she visited the Western Wall, Judaism's top pilgrimage site in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Wearing high heels, blue jeans and a black jacket, the Material Girl was accompanied by her Brazilian model friend Jesus Luz and several bodyguards when she visited the area late on Sunday.

Dozens of onlookers tried to get a glimpse of the music diva while a crowd of photographers snapped away as the 51-year-old ducked into one of the tunnels near the wall.

Madonna landed in Israel on Sunday aboard a private jet and is due to give two concerts in Tel Aviv as part of her Sticky and Sweet tour.

During her visit, the singer will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his office said, as well as opposition leader Tzipi Livni.

A fervent practitioner of Kabbalah, Madonna is also due to attend a symposium on the study of Jewish mystic discipline along with fellow Kabbalists, US actress Demi Moore and her husband and fellow actor Ashton Kutcher, local Israeli media said.

In an article published in Yediot Aharonot, Israel's largest circulation newspaper on July 31, the star recounted the long spiritual search that led her to Jewish mysticism which has become popular in recent years, due to its growing number of celebrity followers.

"I was raised a Catholic and my father was very religious, but none of my questions ever got answered," she wrote in the article that appeared in English and Hebrew.

The Queen of Pop's spiritual search led her to practice yoga, study Buddhism, Taoism and the Art of War -- a 16th century military treaty -- and read about the early Christians.

She said her search was over after she turned to Kabbalah.

In 1997 Madonna came into contact with a Los Angeles-based centre that teaches an eclectic mix of Orthodox Jewish tradition and positive thinking aimed at spiritual well-being.

In 2004, she took the Hebrew name Esther but has not converted to Judaism.

From the point of view of Orthodox Jews, her studying the Kabbalah is sacrilege as they consider it should be reserved for married men over 40 who have poured over Talmudic texts for years.

Madonna has previously visited Israel in 2004 and 2007 on private trips.

Madonna holds concert before over 50,000 people in Sofia

Sofia. More than 50,000 fans gathered to watch Madonna's concert at Vasil Levski national stadium in Sofia on Saturday evening. The audience was waiting for her to come out for nearly two hours. The fans were calling her through applauses, yells and Mexican waves. The emotions were rising by the minute. The singer appeared on the scene at 10:00 p.m. sharp. The leitmotif of the musical event was Michael Jackson, who would have turned 51 on Saturday. His words "If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change" were shown on the video screen on the background of his photos and videos. Madonna did not miss to challenge the church once again with her song Like a Prayer and a slide and light show. The fans could read citations from holy religious books and her own thoughts on God.
The scenography and visual effects were impressive. The singer changed several costumes. She even came down among her fans and let them touch her and sing with her.
When the emotions reached their peak, the concert finished. Madonna disappeared behind a screen reading Game is Over.
No incidents occurred during the concert. Or at least the audience did not hear about any.

Madonna tours Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM — The Material Girl has opened a visit to the Holy Land with a spiritual touch.

Madonna headed to Jerusalem's Old City late Sunday where she toured an ancient tunnel near the Western Wall — the holiest site where Jews can pray.

The 50-year-old pop star arrived in a black Mercedes van and was escorted into the tunnel by police. She made no comment to reporters and was whisked away about a half hour later.

Madonna isn't Jewish, but she's a follower of Jewish mysticism and has even taken the Hebrew name Esther.

She arrived early Sunday for a pair of concerts this week. It will be her first performance in Israel since 1993, though she came on private pilgrimages in 2004 and 2007.

Madonna is also set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday.

Madonna jets in ahead of Tel Aviv Concerts

Pop music icon Madonna landed here in her private jet yesterday morning, ahead of her back-to-back concerts in Tel Aviv.

Madonna's final two stops on her "Sticky & Sweet" tour will take place at Hayarkon Park, tomorrow and Wednesday
    Advertisement

In August, the producers of Madonna's concerts whet the appetite of fans with details of her show. A stage 18-meters-high was prepared in May, which includes four hydraulic lifts and a 25-meter-long catwalk, which will extend from the stage into the crowd.

Film clips and laser patterns will be screened, and Madonna will be backed by 17 dancers, who will change costumes no less than eight times during the performance.

Madonna's entourage is expected to number around 200 people by the time of the concert, but the show's promoters would neither confirm nor deny rumors that some her famous friends, including Justin Timberlake, would be among them.

Tickets left for Wednesday

The playlist for the concert, which will run for exactly two hours and 15 minutes, is expected to be exactly the same as that used at other performances of the "Sticky & Sweet" tour, which began in 2008.

Tickets are completely sold out for the first concert tomorrow, but are still available for Wednesday's concert.

The concert tormorrow will be Madonna's second performance in Israel.

She first appeared at Hayarkon Park 16 years ago as part of her "Girlie" tour, and also visited Israel in 2006 during the Jewish High Holidays, along with 2,000 other students of Kabbalah.

Message Board - Madonnasworld - #1 U.S. Fansite on the Queen of Music

60,000 fans gathered to see Madonna tonight in Bulgaria

A total of sixty thousand Bulgarians and foreigners have gathered for Madonna's concert in Sofia's stadium on Saturday night, which has been described as the largest gig ever organized here.

Eight bodyguards and a team of 250 people will take care of the security and performance of the pop star Madonna while she is in Bulgaria.

Sofia will see the biggest stage that has ever come to Bulgaria (85 meters in length, 40 meters in hight). There will be more than 2 kilometers of fences in and outside of the Bulgaria's National Stadium "Vasil Levski".

The gig of pop star Madonna in the Bulgarian capital will bring traffic in downtown Sofia to a standstill with all major boulevards near the stadium to host it being closed.

Cars are already prohibited from parking in the alleys along Sector G at Vassil Levski stadium, while on Thursday the ban will be imposed near the parking lots in sectors B and V near the bridge of the sports facility.

On the day of the concert, August 29, parking will be prohibited on the Gurko street in the section between the Evlogi Georgiev and Vassil Levski boulevards.

Evlogi Georgiev boulevard and Gurko Street will be banned for cars and buses.

The route of a number of buses will be changed due to reorganization of the traffic.

Madonna's concert in Bulgaria coincides with Michael Jackson's birthday, August 29, and local media reports have said that the pop singer is going to honor him with the appearance on stage of a look-alike who would imitate closely Jacko's choreography and the world famous moon walk.

The organizers from Sofia Music Enterprises, however, were not aware of a special part of Madonna's show in Sofia that would honor Jacko, who died at the end of June, two months before he could turn 51.

Meanwhile the Orthodox Church blasted Madonna concert in Sofia, accusing the 51-year old pop singer of showing disrespect to Christianity and has urged Bulgarians to stay away from the show.

According to the church in some of her choreography and stage scenarios, this singer sends impressive messages which, however, run contrary to Christian morality.

It also deplored the fact that Aug. 29 is a day of lent for Orthodox Christians marking the beheading of John the Baptist, the biblical preacher who baptised Jesus Christ and an important figure in the Orthodox faith.

Madonna at tonights show in SOFIA Bulgaria!

On Saturday night Madonna held her first concert before Bulgarian audience. More than 50,000 Bulgarian and foreign fans came to Vasil Levski national stadium in Sofia to watch the biggest musical event in Bulgaria for 2009. Except for a small delay in letting fans in the stadium, there were no other organizational problems. Long lines of waiting viewers formed outside the sports facility. The first fans entered at stadium at around 6:00 p.m. local time. The manager of the firm in charge of guarding the concert, Atanas Simeonov, admitted the first group of fans, those who had bought a BGN 200 ticket for the so-called golden ring. At around 8:00 p.m. the stadium was overcrowded. The pop star came out at 10:00 p.m. sharp, sitting in a throne amid a light show.

Madonna in Bulgaria today

Bulgaria: 8 Hotels Ready to Welcome Madonna in Bulgaria's Sofia
The timing and route of Madonna's arrival and departure are being strictly kept in secret. File photo by EPA/BGNES

Though Madonna's plans during her stay in the Bulgarian capital Sofia are shrouded in mystery, eight hotels have said they are ready to accommodate the pop queen, should she decide to spend the night here, organizers announced.

The names of the hotels have not been disclosed.

Earlier in the day organizers said the timing and route of her arrival and departure are being strictly kept in secret.

"Nobody knows when she will arrive in Bulgaria," Dimitar Kovachev, chief executive of Sofia Music Enterprises, organizers of the concert, told the Bulgarian National Radio.

The singer arrived in the country on a private plane, but the hour of its landing was not disclosed even to the organizers.

The same lack of clarity holds true about the start of the concert, which organizers attribute to Madonna's "wayward ways".

"We will wait for her as long as she wants us to," Kovachev said, adding half-jokingly that she may stay in Bulgaria for no more than fifteen minutes after the end of the show.

The concert, at Sofia's Vasil Levski Stadium, is expected to be attended by about 50,000 people. Madonna will arrive in Sofia following a concert in neighboring Romania, on Wednesday.

Almost all tickets - costing up to BGN 150 (GBP 67) - have already been sold, organisers said.

Madonna follows up comments about Gypsies being discriminated

The BBC reports that Madonna furthered explained her comments about the discrimination against Gypsies while performing in Romania. Her publicist Liz Rosenberg said, "Madonna has been touring with a phenomenal troupe of Roma musicians who made her aware of the discrimination toward them in several countries so she felt compelled to make a brief statement." The singer had been booed during a Bucharest concert on Wednesday night for saying, "It has been brought to my attention, that there is a lot of discrimination against Romanies and Gypsies in general in Eastern Europe—it made me feel very sad."

Trio criticizes crowd for booing Madonna

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) -- A Russian trio performing Gypsy music with Madonna said Friday they were "pained" to see the pop star booed during her Bucharest concert for criticizing widespread discrimination against Gypsies.

Thousands of people applauded the trio's performance with Madonna in Bucharest on Wednesday night during her worldwide "Sticky and Sweet" tour. But minutes later they booed and jeered the pop star when she said discrimination should end against eastern Europe's Gypsies, also known as Roma.

In a press conference Friday in Bucharest, Vadim Kolpakov, the youngest member of Kolpakov Trio, said the public reaction was unexpected.

"The audience was wonderful when we played," he said. But he called the booing and jeering "the worst

reaction the Roma group had received during the entire tour.

"Madonna was surprised (about the reaction) but I cannot comment for her," Vadim Kolpakov said, declining to say if Madonna had made a similar comment about Gypsies at other concerts in eastern Europe.

"We want ... to be recognized as equals," said trio founder Sasha Kolpakov, a Russian Roma.

"It pains me to see discrimination in the world, it pains me to see discrimination of Roma," Sasha Kolpakov said. "There are good Roma people that we are proud of. There are also Roma who live in poverty and who have nothing to do, who beg or do illegal deeds."

Roma are a nomadic ethnic group believed to have their roots in the Indian subcontinent. They live mostly in southern and eastern Europe, but hundred

of thousands have migrated west over the past few decades in search of jobs and better living conditions.

Romania has the largest number of Roma in the

region. Some say the population could be as high as 2 million, although official data put it at 500,000.

The Kolpakovs said discrimination against Roma exists not only in eastern Europe but in the West too.

"We played in Italy and met Roma representatives in Milan. We heard there's a big problem (in Italy)," said Vadim Kolpakov, adding that he thought discrimination against Roma was increasing in Europe.

"I think it is going up," he said, mentioning the killing of six Roma in Hungary and the burning of Roma caravans in Naples, Italy.

Kolpakov Trio will travel with Madonna to Bulgaria and Israel — the last two destinations on her tour. The Kolpakovs are Roma, while the band's third member is a Russian Jew.

MADONNA CELEBRATION VIDEO teaser 3

Madonna booed over gipsy speech

Madonna was booed by fans in Romania after she told them to be nice to gypsies.

The star was in the Romanian capital Bucharest for a concert as part of her Sticky and Sweet tour and spoke to fans during her La Isla Bonita song which was played with a gypsy music rhythm.

She told them: "I've never been to Romania before and I am happy to be here.

"But I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in Eastern Europe and that makes me very sad, especially because we believe in acceptance, gypsies, homosexuals, people that are different. Everyone must be treated the same, don't forget that!"

But instead of the applause she expected fans jeered and booed the statement.

There are over 500,000 gypsies officially registered in Romania but the real numbers are expected to be much more as many have not declared their ethnicity in a country where they face widespread discrimination.

They are Romania's most socially and economically disadvantaged minority, with high illiteracy levels.

Madonna was staying at the five-star Radisson SAS Hotel in Bucharest with her two daughters, Lourdes and Mercy, and her close staff.

The star is to leave Bucharest today (Thurs) for her next concert, in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Madonnas a fan of Dancing with the stars, sort of

Debi Mazar, MadonnaDonato Sardella/ Getty Images; Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images

Madonna is a fan of Dancing With the Stars—sorta.

Her longtime best friend, Debi Mazar, tells me that the queen of pop was one of the first people she heard from when it was announced she'd be competing in the upcoming ninth season of the hit reality competition show.

"She's really excited for me," Mazar, 45, said. "She was on her way to Budapest and she just said, "Oh, my God! How great! And you are dancing with Russians—how lucky are you?!"

That Russian would be Mazar's partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Mazar's already under his spell...

"He's very funny, he's very sweet, and he's very patient," said Mazar, who plays publicist Shauna Roberts on Entourage. "He's got a great sense of humor…And I can't stop looking at that butt!"

Well, she better stop looking if she wants a real shot at the disco-ball trophy.

She admits she was wrong to assume ballroom dancing would come easier to her because of the many years she spent dancing in New York City nightclubs. "In my first three days of rehearsal I have come to find that I am really uncoordinated and I really can't dance," Mazar said. "It's really terrifying."

Win or lose, Mazar says it will all be worth it because of the exposure that comes with the waltzing. Not only do she and hubby Gabriele Corcos have an Internet cooking show, Under the Tuscan Gun, but they're also writing a cookbook and releasing a skin-care line made from olives grown at their home in Florence, Italy.

Mazar is not, however, looking forward to the Dancing costumes. "Everything is padded," she said. "I don't want bigger tits! I don't want them up to my chin."

She added, "I'm a girl who always wears skirts below the knee. I don't show off my legs, because I don't really love my legs. But everything they have chosen to put me in is like up to my crotch!"

Sounds like Madonna would approve.

"CELEBRATION"

Madonna orders 500 roses and 400 fighters

Madonna has hired more than 400 specially trained personal bodyguards after receiving death threats according to media in Serbia and Romania.

The start arrived at the concert in Serbia in disguise just three hours before the concert after rescheduling to minimise her stay in the country because of the threats -- according to local media. She also cancelled plans to stay a local hotel and left Belgrade right after the concert.

Local newspaper "Press" said Madonna had arrived on a flight from Budapest three hours before the Belgrade show and had been " disguised so that she would not be recognised."

It added that Madonna had supposed to arrive a day earlier but then she had been told it was not safe and had changed her plans to make a visit there as short as possible.

In Bucharest in Romania local media said that the nervous star had engaged 400 specially trained bodyguards to protect her after her arrival later today (Tuesday) and before the concert tomorrow (Wednesday).

There will also be 1,300 policemen on duty when the concert takes place in Parcul Izvor, near the Parliament building.

Madonna's request for specially trained security guards follows on from an earlier demands that the ceilings of the backstage rooms be covered with white silk and be filled with 500 white and red roses prior to her performance in Bucharest.

The diva's 34 close staffers include two personal fitness coaches, a therapist, an interior decorator and an Italian chef. The star has asked for a massage room, a hydro-massage shower stall and a gym. All fitness equipment and interior-decoration items are being sent to Bucharest.

Two days before her first concert in Bucharest this Wednesday, most of the staff has already arrived and are making last-minute preparations for the concert where tickets cost between 30 and 200 Euros.

Madonna's 26 August concert will be part of her "Sticky & Sweet Tour."

Madonna Bulgaria gig slammed

SOFIA - BULGARIA'S Orthodox Church condemned on Tuesday Madonna's upcoming Sticky and Sweet concert in Sofia, saying it blasphemously collides with the date that marks the beheading of John the Baptist.

'We express our Christian support and approval for the art of singing, which influences the moral development of people and promotes universal moral values,' the church said in a statement.

But it added that at almost every concert she stages in a Christian country, Madonna - who performs in the Bulgarian capital on Saturday - has shown a 'lack of respect' for church rituals.

'In some of her choreography and stage scenarios, this singer sends impressive messages which, however, run contrary to Christian morality,' the statement said.

What's more, the church said, August 29 is a day of lent for Orthodox Christians marking the beheading of John the Baptist, the biblical preacher who baptised Jesus Christ and an important figure in the Orthodox faith.

Almost all tickets for Madonna's concert, one of the largest gigs ever organised in Sofia, have already been sold, organisers told AFP Tuesday, although they refused to give a precise number.

Fans are feverishly awaiting the show, which also falls on the day that late pop idol Michael Jackson would have turned 51. -- AFP

Madonna to attend Paris Fashion Week?

Christian Audigier, the famous French designer, returned to Paris from Los Angeles, planning for a fashion show which will be held on the October Paris Fashion Week. There is no need to emphasize that he is welcomed by most Hollywood popular stars since many of them are found wearing Ed hardy t-shirts, a brand famous for the special patterns designed by him when doing shopping. Besides, he also keeps a close relationship with most of the stars, such as Madonna who was even invited in May to design for Ed hardy.
As what was said, Christian Audigier paid over $100,000 for this corporation with Madonna. And he even specially held a small fashion show in order to inspire her. Last year, he still make an agreement with the man who died a few days ago, Michael Jackson the King of Pop, for the introduction of the clothing brand with same name. But now this would be the greatest pity in the fashion circle with the death of Michael Jackson. Recently, when Christian Audigier promoted his wine brand in London, he said that some most popular stars would show in his fashion show on October. He declined to tell who would come, but it is commonly expected that Madonna may come up in the show. Furthermore, Christian Audigier even chose the singer Christian Audigier as the new spokesperson of
Ed hardy clothing. Therefore, just look forward to this spectacular fashion show with our heartful wishes.

Copycat Gwyneth Paltrow follows in Madonna's footsteps

Madonna has done it and Jamie Oliver too. Now Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin have become the latest celebrities to spread out into the house next door.

After snapping up the property adjoining their London home, the couple are to create a £7million superhouse with 33 rooms.

Work began last week with builders putting up scaffolding and removing windows. Martin, 32, bought the couple's current home for £2.5million from Kate Winslet in 2004.

Bought up: Both Madonna and Jamie Oliver have bought adjoining properties to their original houses

The Devon-born son of an accountant and music teacher, Martin has seen his band Coldplay become one of the world's most successful groups.

In May the Daily Mail revealed that Jamie Oliver had bought the house adjoining his family home in London to create a £7.5million 19-room mansion.

Last year Madonna also paid £6million to acquire the next-door property. However, the plan hit a stumbling block after she failed to obtain planning permission to knock through the connecting walls.
