Preview of tonight's Letterman show before it airs..

Madonna sat down with dave for the 8th time today.
Dave fumbled with her cd in the intro on purpose and finally found it on his desk.
she made a grand entrance, the NY RANGERS HOCKEY TEAM brought her in, ontop of HOCKEY STICKS from the back entrance! She made her way all the way down to daves stage wearing sunglasses, I was releavied when she finally took them off! you can hardly see her face with those things on.
she looked AMAZING in DOLCE & GABBANNA Black skin tight dress and BOUTIN shoes.
She made a motion as if to show herself smoking a cigarette
she explained that her behavior on the letterman show in '94 was due to smoking a joint before hand lol
Madonna made sure to point that out when he asked her if she likes him, she said well dave I've been on your show 8 times! lol
Dave showed madonna a photo of her daughter Lola dressed up in the LIKE A VIRGIN outfit and madonna said, that it was a photo of her, lol I forget the rest of her joke,
during the commerical breaks many producers came to her whispering in her ear, and dave was calling a pizzeria , we had no idea what would happen next!
Dave called in a pizza order cause Madonna has never eaten NY style Pizza before, so she says!
anyway shes a very smart eater and said NO to cheese but yes to Mozerella and black olives!!
she asked the audience what do you want us to do?
and we screamed STAY but of course they went outside to grab a slice!

Madonna arriving at LETTERMAN tonight

She's back!!!

Madonna is heading to the David Letterman show for the first time in two years. You may remember that 1994 visit where the queen of pop made an awkward appearance where she gave the king of late night her underpants.

Tonight she'll be pimping out her latest greatest hits album and we assume that she'll be a little bit more dignified, but with Madonna, you never know.

Everybody Loves Madonna

You can't think of modern pop music without thinking about her. There would be no Britney, no Christina, no Pussycat Dolls and no Lady GaGa without her. From the second that she burst onto the scene in the early '80s, her presence has permeated almost every facet of pop. Her influence is everywhere, and she's not going anywhere either.

Tomorrow, Celebration [Warner Bros.], a comprehensive 2-CD retrospective featuring Madonna's biggest and brightest hits, will hit shelves. In order to Celebrate, we talked to various people she's influenced—from Juliette Lewis and Colbie Caillat to Kristinia DeBarge and Asher Book of V Factory. They told ARTISTdirect.com editor Rick Florino why they love Madonna and will continue to do so in this exclusive feature.

How did you discover Madonna and what does her music mean to you?

Juliette Lewis

I was definitely a Madonna fan growing up. I liked "Holiday." I love that first record and other things since. As a kid, I was drawn to dance music and early rap—when it was almost rebellious to be into rap. Now hooks are tied into cell phones and Vitamin Water [Laughs].

Asher Book of V-Factory & Fame

I love Madonna! She's on our label, and I remember we got a sneak peek of her last video for "4 Minutes." We felt all special because the label was like, "The public hasn't seen the video yet, but you're getting a first peek at it. We were in one of the big offices, and we saw it. Madonna is incredible, and I've always looked up to her for sure. Honestly, I've never seen her live. Seeing her videos was what did it. There are so many classics like "Like a Virgin." I like how she doesn't hold back. She just goes for it. That's what a lot of people love about her. Her personality is incredible. She's such a superstar in her own mind that she can just go for it. That's what I love about her. I've always been a fan. There was never one moment where I was like, "Oh this is what did it for me!" I've loved pretty much everything she's done. I love her mystique. She always knew what she was going for and she just went for it. She's great in interviews too. I've always liked that about her.

Kate Earl

I like Madonna a lot. I grew up in Alaska so my true exposure to music beyond my family and the local radio was really MTV. That's where I discovered Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, George Michael, Paula Abdul and Madonna. That's where I found everyone. Madonna's video for "Express Yourself" with the cat, the milk and all of that stuff was amazing. I just loved it. It was so sensual and vivid, and she looked like a '40s starlet. The first thing I was attracted to was just her look the really blown-out white makeup. She was so shocking too especially when I was a little Christian girl. I couldn't help but like it [Laughs]. I haven't seen her live, but I'd love to.

Marié Digby

I'm a huge Madonna fan. Her Immaculate Collection was the first CD that I ever bought! I probably learned how to sing thanks to Madonna. I just played that CD over and over. I actually thought I was kind of rebellious for buying her CD because she's so sexual. I was like eleven-years-old, and I felt sort of dirty for buying the CD [Laughs]. I've looked up to her for pretty much my whole entire life. No one can really touch her career—the way that she's been a chameleon. People seem to really accept her for everything she does, and that's very unusual.

LIGHTS

I like the hits, there's something sweet about them! I discovered her on the radio. Songs like "Lucky Star" and the controversial songs like "Like a Virgin" stick out in my mind. Those definitely made me remember her.

Jason DeRulo

I'm listening to Madonna a lot. My mom was a really big fan of Madonna. My favorite song is actually, "Frozen." You should look it up. It's a really dope old school Madonna song. It's funny because my mom wasn't really a big musical influence. I'm the only musician in my whole entire family [Laughs]. It's really weird.

Colbie Caillat

I'm definitely a Madonna fan. I love "Holiday!" I really discovered her because of my sister and mom. I loved the music and how the style of production and the songs made me feel. When I think back, it reminds me of growing up in Malibu—always dancing around the house listening to her and having the crazy '80s hairdo and all of her outfits. I love old Madonna.

Kristinia DeBarge

I love Madonna. I listen to Truth or Dare whenever I feel like it's time for me to stick up for myself or I'm having a hard time taking advice. When I feel like being a strong independent woman, I'll download a snippet from Truth or Dare from YouTube, watch it, go out and be inspired to be a strong individual. She's always inspired me to have a voice and an opinion. I definitely love Madonna!

Mariah, Madonna's new releases slug it out for No. 1

Madonna, "Celebration" (Warner Bros.): How do you say goodbye to your label home for the past 25+ years? With a greatest hits package that, even at a walloping 36 songs (34 classics and two new tracks), still doesn't cover all your hits.  Configured lots of different ways-single disc, double disc, CD/DVD combo... Madge any way you want her.  The title track just became Madonna's 40th (you read that right) No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Chart.  Catch her on David Letterman on Wednesday.

Madonna celebrates UK number one

Madonna's third greatest hits album, Celebration, has topped the UK album chart in its first week of release.

Collecting together hits like Hung Up and Like A Virgin, the retrospective marks the end of the star's 27-year relationship with record label Warners.

The singer signed a $120m (£75m) deal with Live Nation in 2007. Celebration is her 11th number one in the UK.

In the singles chart, Taio Cruz spends a second consecutive week at the top - the first act to do so since July.

Since then, seven different records have made an appearance at number one, with the Black Eyed Peas' Boom Boom Pow claiming the crown on two separate occasions.

Cruz's Break Your Heart ends that run, giving the London-born singer the biggest hit of his career to date.

UK TOP FIVE SINGLES
  • 1. Taio Cruz - Break Your Heart (pictured)
  • 2. David Guetta feat Akon - Sexy Chick
  • 3. Jay-Z feat Alicia Keys - Empire State Of Mind
  • 4. Shakira - She Wolf
  • 5. Jay-Z feat Rihanna and Kanye West - Run This Town Source: Official UK Charts Company
  • The top 10 is peppered with album tracks this week, as music lovers cherry pick songs from newly-released albums by Jay-Z and Dizzee Rascal.

Jay-Z's duet with Alicia Keys, Empire State Of Mind, is at number three, while Dizzee Rascal's cover of 1990s dance classic Dirty Cash (Money Talks) makes its first appearance at number 10.

Further down the chart, former Eurovision hopeful Jade Ewen scores her second solo hit of the year as My Man debuts at 35 - a placing that may reinforce the wisdom of her decision to join the Sugababes this week.

However, despite the acres of coverage given to the Sugababes split this week, the band have not seen a sales jump for their current single.

Get Sexy, the last record to feature founder-member Keisha Buchanan, drops five places to number 15.

    UK TOP FIVE ALBUMS
  • 1. Madonna - Celebration
  • 2. Muse - The Resistance
  • 3. Dizzee Rascal - Tongue N' Cheek
  • 4. Mika - The Boy Who Knew Too Much
  • 5. Peter Andre - Elevation Source: Official UK Charts Company
  • Back in the albums chart, there are top 10 new entries for Dizzee Rascal, Mika, Cliff Richard and the Shadows and Pearl Jam.

In one of the busiest weeks for new CDs this year, there are also chart debuts for albums by Madness, Richard Hawley, Tommy Steele and Michael Bolton.

Last week's number one, Muse's The Resistance, drops to number two.

And, two weeks after the much-vaunted release of the remastered Beatles back catalogue, all but three of the Fab Four's records have dropped out of the top 40.

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the highest-placed reissue, at 31, followed by Abbey Road at 33 and Revolver at 40.

Earlier this week, EMI Records said the re-released albums had sold 2.25m copies in North America, Japan and the UK during their first five days on sale.

NYPOST reviews singles and video release

Her Madgesty offers a 'Celebration' of hit singles and videos

IN the 26 years' worth of videos on "Madonna Celebration: The Video Collection," the global pop icon inhabits more memorable personalities than Sybil. The two-disc set of 47 videos (the companion to her newly remastered hits on CD), out Tuesday from Warner Bros., is a must-have for anyone who ever wore fingerless gloves, a fake lip mole, or a wedding dress to a nightclub.

"Thinking about them brings home the huge range of her work," says William Orbit, her longtime collaborator and the three-time Grammy-winning producer behind "Ray of Light," the seminal single in Madonna's electronic trip. The one she's still on. Her new single, "Celebration" is her 40th No. 1 hit, this time topping Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play Chart. Orbit is most fond of her more recent videos for "Frozen" and "Bedside Story," though he concedes that the bubble-gum clips from the '80s "certainly get better with time." It's the old vs. young Elvis debate for a new generation, minus the obesity and addictions.

Whether she was wearing a simple hipster skirt in "Burning Up" or flashing more mesh and fishnet than all of Hong Kong Harbor in "Lucky Star," the fashion she defined in the early '80s is today's American apparel. Her gender-bending, crotch-grabbing, cross-burning, rule-breaking raunchiness were the source materials for the pop star playbook studied today by Katy Perry, Lady GaGa and the like. And at the height of MTV's golden age, she embraced music videos like no one else.

She mimicked Marilyn ("Material Girl") and flippantly defiled the pristine white paint job on a Datsun 280z ("Borderline"). She starred in her own mini-dramas ("Papa Don't Preach," "La Isla Bonita"), and has been a power blonde, a sultry brunette and virtually every tint and temperament in between.

This $30 collection includes every phase — even her duds. The "Live To Tell" video, for example, features interstitial scenes from Sean Penn's snoozer "At Close Range" proving she must have truly loved him once. "Get Into the Groove," from her own vehicle "Desperately Seeking Susan," on the other hand, has some classic images: Madge cooling her sweaty pits in a bathroom hand dryer? Check. Her dancing with that poet-shirted, Flock of Seagulls devotee? Check.

Then there's Madonna the blasphemous in "Like a Prayer." "Pet Cemetery" director Mary Lambert provides the blood-weeping false idol and Madonna provides a sinfully titillating cleavage dance in front of a milieu of burning crosses. It's as offensive today as it was in '89.

Disc 1 deftly recaps Madonna's button-pushing era. She dons a suit and grabs her junk for director David Fincher in "Express Yourself," then straps on bondage gear (or goes au natural) in "Justify My Love" and "Erotica."

Disc 2 is a portrait of the artist as a grown-up disco diva. The fast-forward "Ray of Light" video is like legal Ecstasy. But awkward moments in her pop-culture history are strangely repeated. The video for the Grammy-winning tune "Beautiful Stranger," written with Orbit, features Madonna making out with Austin Powers in his Union Jack-themed Jag, for example.

There's plenty of genre-hopping, too. The country-ish "Don't Tell Me" segues awkwardly into "What It Feels Like for a Girl," a slice of ultra-violence directed by Madonna's then-husband Guy Ritchie and banned by MTV in the US. One of the last high points is the leotard-and-parkour fest that is "Hung Up." Time, indeed, has gone by so slowly for the impeccably toned Madonna.

The NY Times: Madonna returns to letterman

A week after scoring his best ratings in recent years thanks to top bookings like President Obama and former President Clinton, David Letterman is following up next week with another guest who is bound to grab attention.

On Wednesday Mr. Letterman will welcome Madonna, with whom he has had his share of tempestuous (and censored) moments in the past.

MADONNA VISITS CBS's "LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN," WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 30 ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK

Superstar Madonna will visit the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN, Wednesday, Sept. 30 (11:35 PM-12:37 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

This will mark the music icon's eighth appearance on the CBS broadcast — she was last interviewed on the show on Jan. 11, 2007, with prior sit-down interviews on Oct. 20, 2005, Nov. 11, 2003, Nov. 3, 2000 and her memorable appearance on March 31, 1994.  She also made a brief cameo appearance Feb. 13, 1995, when she delivered Valentine's candy and flowers to Letterman. On Dec. 28, 1998, she appeared in a taped celebrity Top Ten List of the "Top Ten Things Beautiful Women Love About Dave."

The LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN is a production of Worldwide Pants Incorporated.  Barbara Gaines, Matt Roberts, Jude Brennan, Maria Pope and Rob Burnett are the executive producers.

    Madonna contest on Modern Tonic

    D-Day

Great days deserve observance. On Tuesday, September 29, three of music's greatest gay icons — Madonna, Mariah and Barbra — vie for the No. 1 spot with new album releases. We just might need a vacation day to take it all in. Modern Tonic is celebrating by giving away all three below.

    Madonna
    , Celebration
If ever there were doubt Madonna is the queen of relevant reinvention, the two-disc 36-song Celebration is crowning proof. New tracks "Revolver" (featuring Lil Wayne) and "Celebration" keep the "Best Of" party going without adding too much to the oeuvre, but grab the iTunes special edition for the delightfully disco-y throwback bonus track "It's So Cool."

    Mariah Carey
, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel
Like a love song Dial-o-Matic, Mimi's mostly mellow, heartbreak-laden latest has a hip-hop inflected R&B jam for whatever your stage of loss or grief. Feeling angry? "Obsessed" and "Out of My Face" channel what you need with ridiculous saucy rhymes — and a full-on marching band. Bargaining? The slow drawl of "H.A.T.E.U." is wistfully honest. Ready for the makeup sex? "Impossible" drips with naughty name checks and a Barry White vibe. A powerful remake of Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is" is the icing on the acceptance cake.

    Barbra Streisand
    , Love Is the Answer
Like sipping on a smooth cognac while the rain patters outside, Streisand's latest studio album is pure sonic butter. In collaboration with pianist/producer Diane Krall, Babs breathes new life into a varied set of love-centric jazz standards augmenting their classic arrangements with a richness aching to be emulated in piano bars. Standouts include the bittersweet bossa nova of "Gentle Rain," Jacques Brel's "If You Go Away (Ne Me Quitte Pas)" and affirming opener "Here's To Life."

Modern Tonic is giving away 5 sets of the three albums to our readers plus a limited edition Madonna lithograph and T-shirt. To enter, become a fan of Modern Tonic on Facebook, then write on our wall which of the three superstars you think will be number one on the Billboard album chart the week after release. The note you post is your automatic entry into the contest. We will pick five winners at random on Wednesday, October 7 (the day the chart positions are announced) out of those people who correctly guess who will be the #1 artist.

    Celebration Billboard in Times Square

47th and Broadway. Next to the W Hotel.

Also, I've seen smaller posters along 10th Avenue. Beginning around the 20's going up to 34th Street. They only have her picture and the date (Sept. 29th) and nothing else...not her name, or the name of the album.

    Who wore it best?

    Hayden and Madge

One of the lovely ladies above is 20 years old.

The other is easily old enough to be her mother, but prefers to date people around that age (way to go, Jesus Luz!). Both are looking sexy lately!

The Heroes star dared to bare all ,while the pop icon topped her lace dress with a cropped leather jacket for the Marc Jacobs show during Fashion Week.

Maybe Hayden heard Milo Ventimiglia and Jaimie Alexander are dating and wanted to show him what he's missing? Whatever the reason, fierce!

As for Madonna, she's the Queen of Pop. Her Madgesty, if you will. She needs no introduction and is rarely seen looking anything but fabulous.

vote now to say who wore it best!

of course this picture does not do madonna justice as shes got her jacket on!! madonna looks the best by far, says madonnasworld :()
