Madonna makes a clean get away

Could the Queen Of Pop have got her her hands dirty while cleaning her mud covered heels from the previous day?

Or maybe she's developed an unhealthy obsession with hygiene?

Whatever the reason, Madonna was snapped waving hand sanitiser out of her car window as she left the Malawian orphanage where her son David was adopted from.

Hawke praises Madonna for Gypsy support in Romania

BUCHAREST, Romania — Actor Ethan Hawke has praised Madonna's words of support for Gypsies during her concert in Romania.

Hawke says that Madonna "transcended being a pop star." He says she "drew international attention and shone the spotlight on a level of racism and the need for greater education."

At an August stop in Bucharest on her "Sticky & Sweet'" tour Madonna said that widespread discrimination against Eastern Europe's Gypsies, also known as Roma, should end. Thousands of fans responded by booing her.

Hawke commented Saturday in Romania where he is promoting the Ovidiu Rom charity run by his mother, Leslie Hawke. The charity supports education for gypsy children.

New Video from Madonna on Raising Malawi

Raising Malawi

My life has been changed. I must share my story with you.

It all began seven years ago when I learned of a small country in Africa called Malawi. Over one million children in this country have been orphaned by AIDS and extreme poverty. Children have been left raising children. Learn more by watching the video message I created for you and discover my interest and concern for Malawi.

The moment I realized the impact I could have on these children, my life was transformed. With the smallest actions, I have witnessed enormous change -- and I'd like to give you the opportunity to help others in need and experience the same kind of fulfillment.

Sign up and join our movement to raise Malawi. I'll send ten (10) people who sign up this week an autographed copy of my documentary film, I Am Because We Are, a movie that will change your life.

Watch a video message from me about Malawi and sign up here:

http://www.raisingmalawi.org/madonnavideo

Michael Berg and I founded Raising Malawi to bring an end to the extreme poverty and hardship endured by Malawi's orphans and vulnerable children. We have partnered with organizations working with the local communities in Malawi. Rather than simply providing aid, we're empowering Malawians with the tools they need to shape their own destiny.

Despite the unimaginable conditions, there is a hope and a determination in the people of Malawi that is nothing short of contagious. It's the spirit of Malawians that keeps me coming back.

I invite you to share in the joy of Raising Malawi. Stories and updates from this small African nation will inspire you and offer a personal connection to the people I call my heroes and friends.

Together, we will raise Malawi.

Love,
Madonna

P.S. Donate today to Raising Malawi and I will match your gift, doubling its impact.

New Video Madonna Asks for your Support

Madonna promises light for Malawian village

MPHANDULA, Malawi — Madonna has promised electricity to a village in Malawi, the impoverished southern African country where she runs a charity organization and from which she has adopted two children.

Speaking in Mphandula, some 50 kilometers (30 miles) from Malawi's capital, Lilongwe, the singer said Thursday: "I know you work in darkness. I will bring you electricity."

Madonna's Raising Malawi charity already has donated $500,000 for a child care center in the village that feeds and educates 3,000 orphaned children.

Madonna arrived in Malawi on Sunday accompanied by her four children. On Monday she broke ground for her $15-million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls.

About 500,000 children in this nation of 12 million have lost a parent to AIDS.

Malawi Orphan Calls Madonna "God"

Material mom gets teary-eyed at her son's old orphanage

Madonna has been anointed an even loftier title – God.

"You are our God," a young child at one of six Madonna-fundedMalawi orphanages told the reportedly "bemused" pop star on Tuesday, according to Usmagazine.com.

"Where could we have been without you?" the orphan asked.

The 51-year-old singer has been touring the AIDS ravished country since Sunday. Earlier this week, she marked the groundbreaking of a new girl's school funded by her charity by planting a tree.

Madonna has adopted two of her four children – David and Mercy – from the impoverished southern African nation. On Tuesday, she reportedly wept after seeing her 4-year-old's former crib at his old orphanage.

"It was an emotional moment," Lucy Chipeta, the director of theHome Child Care Center, told Us.

Next on Madonna's itinerary: a meeting with Malawi's president and Mercy's biological father.

Indian yoga guru refuses to give lessons to Madonna Read more: http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/entertainment/indian-yoga-guru-refuses-to-give-lessons-to-madonna_100267400.html#ixzz0VKnP89HL

London, Oct 29 (IANS) Pop diva Madonna was left fuming after well-known Indian yoga guru Bikram Choudhury refused to give her private lessons insisting that the singer would have to take classes with his other students.
The pop superstar had recently parted ways with her longterm fitness trainer Tracy Anderson saying that she wanted to try a new method of working out, reports contactmusic.com.

Madonna's plan to hire "Bikram Yoga" inventor Bikram Choudhury went awry when the yoga guru turned down her request accusing her of being too temperamental.

"Madonna came to me and asked for private lessons. I told her that if you want to learn from me, then you have to come to my classes. You have to leave your ego behind," said Choudhury.

"If you disagree with her (Madonna), you are immediately blacklisted," he added.

Choudhury insisted none of his other celebrity clients, including George Clooney, Jessica Simpson and Jim Carrey have ever objected to his methods.

Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour Triumph: Watch “Into the Groove”

Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet tour wrapped its record-breaking run last month in Israel, but fans can still catch Material Girl’s incredible Hard Candy stage show on October 30th when EpixHD.com airs footage from her sold-out four-night stand in Buenos Aires from December 2008. As a first look at the footage, Billboard premiered the above video of Madonna and company performing a funky, reworked “Into the Groove” — a song that Madonna herself told RS she feels “retarded singing.”

Sticky & Sweet up close: photos from Madonna’s tour.

This new take on “Into the Groove,” which featured in the “Old School” segment of Madonna’s concert, samples other dance-floor classics like Newcleus’ “Jam On It” and Sugarhill Gang’s “Apache” while characters from late artist (and Madonna pal) Keith Haring dance on dozens of giant screens. But the most awe-inspiring thing about the performance is Madonna herself, as the then-50-year-old jumpropes Double Dutch — while singing.

That’s just one of many reasons the Queen of Pop was featured on our cover for the past two weeks. For 49 more, check out our gallery of Madonna’s 50 Most Iconic Moments. And read Madonna’s own words in exclusive Q&A.

Madonna and son visit his Malawi orphanage

MCHINJI, Malawi — Madonna and her four children have visited the orphanage that kept one of her sons before his 2008 adoption from the impoverished southern African country.

Home of Hope Child Care Center director Lucy Chipeta says she showed Madonna and her son David his crib during their Tuesday visit to the orphanage near the Zambian border. Siblings Lourdes, Rocco and Mercy — who was adopted from Malawi earlier this year — joined their mother on the tour of the orphanage, where Madonna's Raising Malawi charity has built several new buildings.

Madonna and her children arrived in Malawi on Sunday. On Monday she broke ground at her charity's new school for girls.

Glee talks about Madonna

The episode of "Glee" featuring Madonna's music will not air until sometime next year, but apparently that isn't keeping the show's stars from talking about their level of excitement over it. A few of the show's stars recently spoke to E! about the move, and also had a few suggestions for potential songs.

Kevin McHale, who plays Artie (and is not the famous basketball legend of the same name) said that he would like to fashion-forward Kurt sing "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from Evita; Jenna Ushkowitz, who plays Tina, said that she would like to do "Frozen" and could easily see Mercedes belting out one of Madonna's hits without a problem.

The "Glee" cast is currently flying high, as they will perform during the World Series in addition to having several songs frequently appear in the Billboard Hot 100. The show itself is on a brief hiatus until November 11, when we will bare witness to an episode all about Artie. Are you excited for "Glee" to return, and is there a Madonna song you want to hear? Let me know your thoughts with a comment!

Madonna plants tree to launch Malawi girls school

LILONGWE, Malawi — Madonna is marking the start of construction at her school for girls in Malawi.

The pop superstar cut a ribbon and planted a tree at a groundbreaking ceremony Monday.

The 51-year-old celebrity arrived in the impoverished southern African country on Sunday. She was accompanied by her four children — daughters Lourdes and Mercy, and sons Rocco and David.

Madonna adopted Mercy from Malawi earlier this year and adopted David from the country in 2008.

Madonna To Meet Mercy's Biological Father in Malawi

During her trip to Malawi to establish a $15 million school, Madonna plans to meet 3-year-old adopted daughter Mercy's father.

A source close to the pop star, 51, tellsUsmagazine.com that she will meet 24-year-old James Kambewa -- who currently works odd jobs including serving as a night guard -- for the first time during her humanitarian trip to the African nation.

Check out Madonna's craziest looks of all time

"Madonna wants to meet Mr. Kambewa because she does not want to deny Mercy her background," a source tells Us. "Madonna wants to assure Mr. Kambewa that Mercy will not be delinked from her roots."

Still, another family member of Mercy's isn't happy with the pop star's plan.

See photos of controversial celebrity moms

Mercy's uncle, Peter Baneti, tells Us that her family in Malawi doesn't approve of the meeting because Kambewa has only claimed paternity of Mercy after news of the adoption first emerged in April.

"We do not recognize Kambewa as Mercy's father," Baneti tells Us. "He just came out of the woodwork to claim paternity while he was not there when my sister was pregnant."

Madonna's four children -- including 12-year-old daughter Lourdes, son Rocco, 8, Mercy and David Banda, 4, who was adopted from Malawi in 2006 -- accompanied her on the trip.

See more photos of today's top news stories

In addition to the private meeting with Kambewa, Madonna will host a ceremony Monday for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. The school, which will be located near the capital city of Lilongwe, will establish "a leadership institution that will prepare future women leaders committed to the vision of a better Malawi through academic excellence and leadership training," a source tells Us.

Madonna will also spend the trip meeting with President Bingu wa Mutharika, who will likely grant her honorary citizenship. The singer then plans to visit the six orphanages -- which house more than 25,000 children -- she is funding through Raising Malawi.

Oakenfold on 'role model' Madonna

Madonna has been described as "a great role model" by DJ Paul Oakenfold.

Oakenfold has worked with the Queen of Pop several times over the years, most recently on Celebration, and has opened for her on tour.

He said: "I think she's a great role model for young girls and women alike, and I don't understand why people give her such a hard time."

CNN REPORT Madonna visiting Malawi to launch school

Pop star Madonna plans to help break ground in Malawi on Monday for a school she is building in the impoverished southern African nation, from which she adopted two children.

The school -- Raising Malawi Academy for Girls -- will focus on empowering women to become leaders, the singer said on a Web site run by her charity. It will be built in the capital, Lilongwe.

"Our goal is to teach them to challenge themselves, serve their local communities and develop their country," she said. " ... Research proves that young girls throughout the developing world are often left without opportunities to receive a comprehensive education."

Madonna, 51, said her four children accompanied her on the trip -- including two adopted from the country. David Banda, 4, was adopted in 2006 and Chifundo "Mercy" James, 3, earlier this year.

Mercy's adoption petition in April was mired in controversy. A judge at first rejected the application, based on a minimum residency required for foreigners who adopt. The rejection followed criticism by human rights activists, who said the singer was using her fame to circumvent the law.

The singer appealed the decision, and Malawi's high court ruled in her favor in June, clearing the adoption. The residency condition was waived in 2006, when Madonna adopted David.

The singer has been involved with Malawi for several years and made a documentary, "I Am Because We Are," to highlight poverty, AIDS and other diseases devastating children in the country. She also co-founded the nonprofit Raising Malawi, which helps feed, educate and provide medical care for the needy.

The nation of about 13 million is one of the poorest in the world.

The Cruz factor

There's word Madonna has put her friend Penelope Cruz in a bit of a bind. While the two have been friends for several years, Cruz is beginning to think that Madonna recently has pursued her only to get close to filmmaker Pedro Almodovar -- the Spanish director and writer who made Cruz a star.

Part of the Madonna push came at a recent New York dinner they both attended where Almodovar was honored. That led to a pitch by Madonna for a film project starring both woman, directed by Almodovar.

Given the Material Girl's history of box-office bombs, Almodovar is said to to be hesitant but has promised to read the script. ''She still is Madonna. Her name still is magic,'' said an Almodovar associate. ''Who knows? Maybe Pedro's gifts could turn things around for her!''

Madonna takes ‘Disneyland’ to Malawi

Singer brings toy room with her on trip

MADONNA took so many toys and games with her on her latest trip to Malawi that locals are saying her lodge looks like a theme park.

The singer flew to the African country - where she was joined by daughter Lourdes, 13, son Rocco, nine, and her two adopted Malawian children, David and Mercy, both four - with so many toys, bouncy castles and rocking horses that amazed onlookers joked their Kumbali Lodge apartment resembled the famous theme park.

One local resident said: “It’s like Disneyland has come here.”

The 51-year-old singer has returned to the country for a week-long break, starting with the official opening of her charity’s school, the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, in Lilongwe later today.

She said: “It’s an honour for me to be able to help as many of these girls as I can achieve their dreams. I’m also incredibly proud of all the projects Raising Malawi is involved in and I look forward to visiting a number of them during my visit.”

Madonna apparently wanted to wait until her two youngest children were fluent in the local language, Chichewa, until she took them back to their home country.

When David struggled to converse with his old friends on their last visit, Madonna embarked them on a course of intense schooling.

During the visit, the singer will take the children back to spend time with their biological families, including Mercy’s father James Kambewa.

It was recently reported the songstress was keen for her daughter to bond with her 24-year-old father – who was opposed to the adoption – and hopes he will play a role in the youngster’s life.

A source said: “Madonna wants Mercy to learn all about her culture and the community where she was born. She realises her kids need a sense of home and she's determined to do all she can to give that to them. She doesn't want to deny Mercy anything in life - and that includes meeting her dad if that's possible."

MADONNA’S TOYBOY ‘JEALOUS OF GUY RITCHIE’

MADONNA'S close relationship with ex-husband Guy Ritchie is starting to affect her romance with toyboyJesus Luz, according to reports.

The Brazilian model, 22, apparently hates the fact Madonna and Guy — who divorced earlier this year after almost eight years of marriage — spend so much time together.

"Jesus is upset at how often Guy seems to be featuring in Madonna's life lately," revealed a source close to the pop superstar.

"He understands they are keen to maintain good relations for the sake of the family but Jesus made a comment about just how frequently she seems to be seeing her ex — and it's fair to say it didn't go down brilliantly with her.

"Words were said on both sides and tensions have grown in the relationship but it can't be easy seeing your girlfriend spending so much time with her ex husband."

We reported last week how the singer and the film director regret splitting up.

"The pair of them have huge egos so, rather than speaking directly to one another, they are using friends to relay information," a source said. "The truth is both Guy and Madonna are becoming more and more open in their admissions that in many ways they regret getting divorced.

"It's one of those rare situations where couples start to get on better once their marriage is over.

"Both of them are brilliant with the kids and have fond memories of their family life together.

"It's almost as though they have forgotten about all the rows they had as their marriage headed for the rocks."
