Happy birthday, Madonna tribute

Happy Birthday, Madonna Louise Ciccone!

The Detroit native whose groundbreaking, sometimes controversial, career began 30 years ago has kept us all guessing what she might do next for the past three decades.

Born Aug. 16, 1958, In her first national TV appearance on "American Bandstand" in 1984, Madonna told host Dick Clark that her ambition was "to rule the world." Through her singing, songwriting, dancing, film making and philanthropy (to name just a few), she seems to have accomplished that

Madonna continues making music and touring the world, at a age when most people who are eligible for AARP membership are planning their retirement.

Her style has changed through the years, too. The woman whose children are approaching adulthood is herself more often seen in public (if not on the concert stage) in elegant, rather than boundary-pushing attire, although she still has her moments! To celebrate Madonna at 55, we've spotlighted some of the looks she's sported in recent years.
